Abstract

|
Although the nature of anxiety has never been defined with certainty, numerous researches to reveal the neurobiological basis of anxiety have been performed with some success. Especially the concept of fear in the animal model contributed new
ideas
toward the understanding of neuroanatomical substrates of anxiety. The current neuroanatomical model of fear is reviewed. Furthermore recent reports based on clinical researches are summarized. Those include neurotransmitters and hormonal changes
in
various anxiety disorders as well as structural and functional abnormalities on brain images in patients with anxiety disorders. The understanding of neurobiology of anxiety will provide us with a new insight and useful tools to overcome this
burdensome
condition in human beings.
